This video is a match between Gary Player and Peter Thompson played at Royal Melbourne, in Australia and originally aired on February 18, 1962. Royal Melbourne is considered one of the best golf tests in the world. Gary Player, a native of South Africa, has traveled the world perhaps more than any other golfer. Gary joined the PGA Tour in 1957 and has won 21 PGA Tour victories; three Masters, three British Opens, two PGA Championships and the 1965 U.S. Open. He continues to be a force on the Senior PGA Tour today. Peter Thompson, one of the world’s best respected players, gained worldwide recognition during the fifties when he won the British Open five times and finished second twice. He holds the Senior PGA Tour record for the most victories in one year, winning nine times in 1985.
